Learn, Connect, Empower.
Given climate change and the rapid growth of solar due to its increasing affordability, there is a great need to train more skilled technicians who know and understand solar.
This effort must include a focus on women, who currently make up only a small percentage of the existing workforce in solar, and who rarely feel empowered to take on their own DIY solar projects. If you want to know more about the “why” and the numbers, check this out.
Solar for Women focuses on empowering women through training and connecting women interested in solar installation and technical skills. Whether you want to pursue or explore a career in the solar field, connect with peers already in the field, or learn to install solar on your own home, cabin, van, or RV, these hands-on skills have a lot of benefits.
Ultimately, Solar for Women is building a community of other skilled women, and, through the application of our collective skills in the world, we are contributing to the efforts to mitigate climate change. For those who build their hands-on skills in solar, it can be a great first step that leads to many other opportunities!
Learn
We want to see more women as solar installers, as owners of solar companies, and as trainers and mentors to other women in the field. We also want to see girls get exposure to women who work in solar and other trades. In order to help realize these goals, Solar for Women is developing trainings that are led by women, for women. Our goal is to make trainings available in 2024. We are also interested in identifying collaborations and partnerships with trade unions, solar companies, nonprofits, community colleges, and as a part of conferences for the future. Please reach out if you have interest and want to talk further.
Connect
Solar for Women imagines a thriving network of women who work in solar as installers and technicians, and who desire to support other women and encourage girls to consider solar as a career. Women sharing stories, resources, opportunities, and wisdom with one another can make an enormous difference in creating possibilities and shifting culture.
We aim to cultivate storytelling from women about their experiences in solar so that it can be shared and help plant more seeds of inspiration. We will utilize social media and our newsletter to provide stories, information, insights, and opportunities. We envision a robust and engaged network of women who want to both give and receive as a part of this community we are building. If you have a story to share, interest in helping build the network, or other ideas, please reach out.
Empower
Empowerment is a foundational value of Solar for Women. We aim to achieve this through training and connecting women in solar, with a specific focus on installation and technical skills. When women are provided a safe and welcoming learning environment, mentors and teachers who are women, peers who are women, and access to employment and/or the agency to carry out their own projects, empowerment is just the beginning of what is possible!
Solar for Women empowers women through solar technical training and community-building.

There will be a network of female installers, designers, and engineers; as well as mentorship opportunities for those who are interested. In the long term, training and outreach to girls in middle school and high school will be developed as well, to promote solar as a career option for women.
